People want to feel special, and top of the world, during such occasions as wedding or engagement. And what better way you need when all you want is exclusive and designed especially for you? Now a day, antique engagement rings are in vogue. These are the rings which are made up of special pattern and design, and are hand crafted especially for the user.

These antique engagement rings could be ordered based on the era of the make replica, or the region replica. If the person wants a western style of engagement, then antique engagement rings of Victorian or the Edwardian era could be ordered. You could also have custom built ring of the art deco period. Among the region, you could ask for the Celtic, or the Maurian style of make.

If you happen to be engaged the oriental style, you are again spoilt for choice. You could order the dogri style of ring, or the nawabbi style of ring. Again you could opt for the ancient Vedic design patterns and many more.

But before you opt for a vintage antique engagement ring, you need to find an authentic antique dealer or a maker of antique jewelry. You must also take care of the fact that antique engagement ring could be your choice which people may not like. This should not let think that you actually made a mistake by going for an antique engagement ring. Lastly, you should discuss with your spouse, and decide on the make, design and era of the engagement.

An important consideration is the price. Antique engagement rings could cost you a fortune. If you intend to make a royal ring encrusted with precious or semi precious stones, with the color and the design patterns you intend to replicate, then you may have to dive deep into your pocket. And if you are a celebrity, and intend to use a “real” antique engagement ring, then you should contact an authentic antique dealer, and get it cross checked by an expert. After all, it is all about romance, and the cementing of an important decision of life.

Acquiring Unique Engagment Rings

So you want to break free of the cookie cutter mold and look outside the box for an engagement ringUnique engagement rings are a great way to show the one you love that you put a lot of thought and effort into finding the perfect ring for her.  Purchasing a unique engagement ring will symbolize so much more than a common ring, such as a princess cut or pave diamond ring.  Here are a few ideas to get you started on finding a unique ring.

Most antique jewelers have in their possession unique rings.  These two rings go hand in hand because most unique rings are antiques.  Just like everything else in society, rings go through many styles.  Twenty five years ago, it was popular to have gems and stones contained in the ring, along with the diamond.  Nowadays, most people are looking for a colorless diamond ring.  For those that aren’t interested in today’s fads, a unique engagement ring is right up your alley.  Unique engagement rings give you the option of having color in your ring.  It’s always a good idea to look at your girlfriend’s jewelry before shopping for a ring so that you get a sense of what she likes or dislikes.  Also, talking to her friends or her mother for advice is a good idea.

There are a few ways that you can purchase a unique ring.  Since they aren’t that common, the price is usually pretty high due to its demand and rarity, but it’s not impossible.  As I said earlier, most antique jewelers will have them.  Also, some families pass down rings as a family heirloom.  If there is one coming down your family, then you’re in luck.  If not, a final option is by searching online.  There are many companies and auctions that go on online where you can find a great ring for a great price.  The reason why you save money by shopping online is that you are not paying the extra money for the jeweler to receive his commission upon.  Just be careful that you are well aware of the rings conditions and imperfections before spending the money on it.  You will want to ask the company for a detailed history report on the ring to make sure there have been no serious cases with the ring.  If you are on a tight budget, shopping online is probably your best option.

However, if you have the money to spend, going to an antique dealer is also a good idea.  An antique jeweler will have a lot of knowledge on the many different types of rings and will give you good advice as to which ring best suits what you’re looking for.   Also, when you buy from a jeweler, you will know where to bring your ring if it needs to be repaired or resized.  An antique jeweler will also have a history report of the ring and you will be able to physically inspect it before buying it.

No matter what path you take, searching for unique engagement rings is a great way to go.  If you’re girlfriend is not absolutely obsessed with diamonds, she will absolutely love a unique engagement ring.  They have a lot of history and they separate from the pack very nicely.  Since engagement rings already symbolize so much, making it a unique ring will only bring that symbolism further.  Putting thought into the ring will show your future wife that you are thoughtful and caring on these matters and will be swept off of her feet.  No matter how you propose, I’m sure she will love a unique engagement ring.

Platinum Rings!

You’ve just gotten engaged. Of course, your relationship is unique and you want an engagement as unique and valuable as your love. Why not use platinum?

Platinum has become the new standard of the highest quality. Credit card companies now tout their platinum cards. Where once a performer coveted receiving a gold record, platinum is now the mark to shoot for. Thus platinum engagement and wedding rings mark your relationship as the standard to shoot for too.

Most people think platinum is a newcomer among the precious metals. Actually it was known in ancient Egypt as early as 700 B.C., so it is an old metal. There are records of platinum/gold alloys in South Africa in 100 B.C. Scientifically, platinum was recognized as an element in 1700 A.D. but not really used much in jewelry until the early 20th century.

Platinum is used much more today but it is still rare and expensive, 30 times more rare than gold. In its natural state, it is grayish white. When used in jewelry, it is paired with iridium (in a ratio of 90 percent platinum to 10 percent iridium) to make it shine. Platinum is very malleable and more resistant to wear and oxidation than gold.

If you choose a platinum engagement ring, be careful: Platinum has been known to cause skin rashes. It also can tarnish easily. But keep in mind that more people are known to be allergic to gold than to platinum. As long as you try platinum rings on first to test your sensitivity, you should be safe. For the most part, platinum rings very little maintenance and will keep their brand-new appearance for a long time.

Budget conscious couples may be more attracted to titanium than platinum for their engagement rings. Titanium is certainly less expensive and is similar in color and durability to platinum. However titanium is difficult to cut and work with, so many jewelers don’t like working with it. That’s something to keep in mind if you want a custom-made ring.

When you go to select your ring, take your time. There are many beautiful styles available. One of them is bound to be just right for you. Or, you may consider having a ring custom made. Jewelers have custom-ring design software packages so they can make your ring exactly how you want it. Look online and in magazines for ideas of what you want and bring those ideas in.

While platinum is still very rare and expensive, it is a wonderfully durable metal, one that will make that all-important engagement ring a piece that is valued in more ways than one. By choosing platinum, you will have an heirloom that will last as long as your love for each other.

Engagement rings symbolize an emotional commitment and intention to get married. They are intended to be worn for a lifetime. So naturally you want to buy the best engagement ring you can. And that generally means buying the best diamond you can. So which diamond cut is the best for an engagement ring?

This really is like asking, “How long is a piece of string?” The answer depends on so many variables that it is impossible to answer simply.

In essence, the “best” cut depends upon what you mean by the term best.

The Best Cut in Absolute Terms
The cut of a diamond actually refers to how well a diamond has been facetted. Some diamonds are cut more precisely than others. A GIA Diamond Grading Report authenticates the quality of the cut of the diamond and grades it as Ideal or Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair or Poor. Diamonds with a cut graded as Ideal or Excellent are the most valuable diamonds and are therefore the best cuts, irrespective of diamond shape.

The Best Cut For Maximum Sparkle
If you consider the best diamond to be the one with the best sparkle, then you should buy a brilliant round cut white diamond with the best clarity and cut grading you can afford and prong set it into a solitaire.

Once you move away from a round cut brilliant, the amount of sparkle reduces. This is because of the different faceting for the different shapes of diamonds. A well cut marquise for example may well look like it has a shadow in the center in the shape of a bow tie! However, if you are looking for best sparkle, avoid Emerald cut diamonds because their faceting gives them the least amount of sparkle.

The Best Cut For Individuality
Brilliant round cut white diamonds account for a massive percentage of the engagement ring diamond cuts. Some estimate it as high as 75% of all gem grade diamonds sold. So if you want something that will show off your personality, the round brilliant cut would be the worst cut for you! In this case a fancier cut such as a marquise, heart, trillion or even an Emerald will be the best cut.

Best Cut For You
You are the only one who can decide what is the best diamond cut for your engagement ring. Buying diamonds is all about personal appreciation of the gemstone. After all, engagement rings are never bought solely for their investment value! So find the best clarity, best color diamond with the highest cut grade you can afford. After that, just pick a shape you think she will like. You will have the best cut diamond engagement ring

From a recent photo showing Elin Nordegren pumping gas it was painstakingly obvious that she was not wearing her diamond engagement ring. Sources speculate that this was a decisive move on Nordegren’s part to show that things are breaking down in the Tiger camp.

Word has that Elin and Tiger are heading for a divorce but nothing is confirmed yet. One thing we know for certain is that Tiger is not thinking about engagement rings or any of that but rather what to do about his seemingly troubled future as a professional golfer and a dad.

We hope the best for Elin and the kids, and in the end we just want Tiger to do the right thing by cleaning up his act and making things right with his family.

Mens Wedding Rings: Simple or Flashy?

Written by
November 24th, 2009

Traditionally, during wedding ceremonies men receive a plain gold band when exchanging rings.  Today, however, the tables have turned and men are sporting more stylish sometimes flashy rings instead.  Along with this trend we have been seeing a growing number of “reverse proposals” where the woman asks for the man’s hand in marriage and offers him a ring.  In either case, diamond wedding rings for men have been making their mark, as well as designer men’s bands featuring very modern shapes and materials.

The designer wedding jewelry market has definitely noticed the peaking interest, and has been expanding the selections for men to choose from.  One of the more practical trends has been using more rugged materials like platinum, tungsten carbide, palladium, and titanium to name a few.  As well as various thicknesses and colors.  My friend recently gave her new husband a black tungsten wedding band, and it is most fitting to his style.

Another trend has been “blinged-out” men’s wedding rings.  Nick Cannon, who has recently married Mariah Carey, has been seen wearing a very flashy diamond men’s band.  Some have even gone as far as calling it gaudy, but to each his own.  I am sure some of the most famous woman’s diamond engagement rings have been called that as well, but usually out of jealousy.

I think it is very modern for men to want to take pride in the ring they are going to be wearing ’til death.  As often as a girl wants to recieve the most unique and gorgeous engagement ring, a man should be able to have the same expectations.  So for all of you who just don’t want to wear a ring at all, that is a conversation you will have with your spouse (good luck!)

For Amy Winehouse and her ex-husband Blake it has been nearly three months and the (on paper only) divorced couple are planning on getting married again! Will she ever learn?

A pal of Blakes said that the couple aren’t ‘completely’ divorced being that the divorce still has not been finalized, this according to British tabloid the News of The World.

“We’ve been talking on the phone five or six times a day. And speaking of diamond engagement rings, on Friday she told Blake that she was going to put the engagement ring on. “It’s the engagement ring I gave Amy the first time,” Blake told his pal. “I think it cost £2,000 from Tiffany.

The couple even has changed their status on Facebook indicating that they are married. This was done just for fun but now they are feeling really good about the idea. She says she is very happy about it.

Now that the ringis back on her finger she says she feels good that they both tried tomove on but she always knew down in side that they would tie the knot again some day.

Some people have said that diamonds are a girls best friend but I would suggest that it is really diamond engagement rings that are truly a girls best friend. Diamonds are the friend and the rings (or the carriage that it rides in whether it be a pendant, ring, a pair of earrings etc) is the personality. Tough to have one without the other. No?

So all the people who have proliferated the phrase “diamonds are a girls BEST friend” really are only half right. After all what good is a diamond if it can’t properly showcased?

Not all diamond rings are engagement rings

diamond rings
When you are choosing diamond engagement rings, choose carefully as this ring is something that your future wife will hopefully wear for the rest of her life. Not all diamond rings are engagement rings. Diamond engagement rings usually have one diamond larger than the rest or consist of a single diamond. These types of diamond engagement rings are called a solitaire.

Years ago, women wore diamond rings that were called cocktail rings.  They were used for fancy dress and not worn all of the time. To the contrary, diamond engagement rings are worn all of the time and many women never remove them. Diamond engagement rings often come with a wedding band as well, as part of a set.

When you are choosing diamond rings, you need to be sure that the ring is set in a hard, precious metal. Gold or platinum is used in diamond rings as it is strong enough to hold the gem. The best type of metal is either 18 or 14 karat gold or platinum. While 24 karat is considered to be pure gold weight, it is too soft to hold fine gems like diamonds.

In addition to looking at the setting, which is the metal ring in which the diamond will be set, you should also be sure of the quality of the diamond.  A one karat diamond is large and considered standard for diamond engagement rings. You can go smaller, if this is what your budget allows.  You can also have more than one gem in the diamond ring itself. Sapphires are often part of diamond engagement rings as are diamonds.

The quality of the diamond is important. You may be able to get a deal at a discount jeweler, but often the diamonds that are offered are flawed. When choosing diamond rings, especially something as special as diamond engagement rings, it pays to go with a jeweler you can trust. Look for one that has been in business for a long period of time and has a solid reputation.

Diamond rings can also be purchased as anniversary rings.  Some women receive five year anniversary rings as diamond rings after they are married five years. This ring consists of five diamonds. Men also wear diamond rings, usually on their pinky finger, although they can also wear them in their wedding band as well.

When it comes to diamond engagement rings, you need to have a rough idea of the size of her finger if you are trying to surprise her with a ring. Many men give their future wives diamond engagement rings that are too big or too small. This problem is easily rectified by taking the diamond rings to a local jeweler who will be able to size them so that they fit properly.  Diamond engagement rings should fit not too tight, but so that they will not slip off. When buying any type of diamond rings, sizing is important. Many jewelers will resize the rings, although any jeweler is usually able to size any type of ring and will usually charge a little bit of money for this service.
